1.) Go to Buzz Sumo and use the FREE version
2.) Type in a word from your industry e.g marketing. and look at the most recently searched terms.
3.) Use the most popular ones and start to blog about what problems people are wanting to solve on your site!
There’s a lot to learn with SEO but whether you’re a beginner or an intermediate, it’s advisable to read my blog post on the 4 on-page SEO strategies before you continue reading this section. This will help you to understand the basics if you’re unfamiliar with this strategy.
SEO is for Google’s algorithm and basically, the judge that helps rank your content in comparison to the competition.
Although, it’s important to use SEO techniques in every blog post you publish such as using the right keyword density, it’s important to create content for people, not for robots.
SEO is just an inbound marketing strategy that helps the right people find your content and matches them up with it. Again, this is another free marketing tool that could result in a high ROI.
According to Monitor Backlinks, Google receives 1.2 trillion searches every year. Imagine if you even got 1000 searches and 100 of them turned into sales from an SEO strategy that you implemented. SEO is powerful, even in 2019!
Here’s a strategy you can start with for SEO:
- For every blog post you write, include one main keyword phrase that has over 100 searches per month and fairly low competition.
- You can use Google Keyword Planner to get the analytics.
- Include the Keyword in Heading, URL, Alt Tags and mention naturally at least six times.
- Rinse and Repeat for every post!
Social Media is a great tool to use for marketing exposure. Every post that you publish can be shared onto platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Putting things into perspective, imagine if you wrote a significantly helpful post that got shared 10 times. Imagine each person who shared it has 1000 followers.
Yes, that’s a possibility of 10,000 people seeing your post which may result in more shares, buying something from you or visiting your website. And best of all, this has all come completely cost-free!
The best way to easily share your posts is to download a plugin on your website such as ShareCounts. This way, when you’ve published a post you can easily connect up all social media accounts and share it within a click of a button to each platform. This will save you a lot of time compared to manually copying and pasting the link and sharing it!
Here’s a strategy you can use if you already have a reasonably good following on your platforms:
- Do a competition! You could use a free trial of you service as bait to get more shares. People love free giveaways and all they will have to do is share your post on to their feed. This will also result in great word of mouth marketing and gets lots of interest in your company for free once again.
Guest posting is another great inbound marketing strategy. Guest posting entails reaching out to similar people in your industry and offering to write an informative article on their website/blog. Now, I know what you may be thinking.
Probably something along the lines of ”what’s in it for me and why would I take the time out to create a fantastic piece of writing to benefit a competitor?” It’s understandable and I thought this at first!
However, this strategy really is win-win for both parties. By guest posting on someone else’s site, in return you are going to get a link back to your website and normally a bio of yourself that includes your name, website and what you offer to your own customers!
Imagine if you could get featured as a guest poster on a reputable business site such as Forbes or Entrepreneur.
A back link could get you an unbelievable amount of targeted traffic that may result in increasing brand awareness, an increase in sales and marketing exposure.
Here’s a strategy you can use to start reaching out to people:
1.) Go to Google and type in ”Write for us + Your Industry e.g Digital Marketing”.
2.) Multiple sites will appear that offer guest posting (some are even paid).
3.) Go through each one and submit a credible application.
Companies are crying out for guest posting as it’s a free strategy for content but you also get massive value out of it from getting free traffic and building up your startup reputation. It’s very likely you will get replies via email within 2-5 days of applying.
Infuencer Marketing is arguably one of the hottest topics around at the moment and an ever-growing trend that’s proving to be effective for startups. In fact, according to Influencer Marketing Hub, there has been a 1500% increase over the last 12 months for searches relating to influencer marketing.
The importance of visual social channels has become so important in 2019 that more and more startup brands are using influencer marketing to growth hack their way to success.
Influencer Marketing is a low-cost and effective way of promoting your brand via another person. This may be an industry expert that can relate to your services or maybe someone on Instagram who has over 10,000 followers and specialses in something similar to what you’re doing.
The approach to start influencer marketing is quite simple. All you have to do is find industry specific influencers and experts and reach out to them. Here’s an example of an opening message you can may send to them:
I love your account/website and what you stand for. It’s obvious that we have a lot in common in our services and I was wondering if you would like to advertise for us by taking a picture with our product or putting a link in your bio to our service.
We would love to give you some free stuff or pay you in return for doing this for us.
Something along the lines of the given example would be a great as you’re offering something back in return and exchanging value which will spark their interest initially.
Sometimes, it may be a case of trial and error but just keep reaching out and targeting people until you have a break through. Influencer Marketing can really pay off if you hit the jackpot with even one highly-thought of expert.
These inbound marketing strategies written about are all proven to work, if given time. There are many more but these are great to start with as a foundation for your exciting startup. It’s best not to get too overwhelmed and just implement the strategies one day at a time, focusing on one specific strategy to start off with.
Rinse and repeat these strategies as much as you can. Inbound Marketing takes work but over time, it will prove to be a valuable asset for your business growth.
